The role of a Linkage Group is to:
- Progress the actions to be undertaken in each thematic area to advance GCCN’s policies & positions;
- Develop GCCN’s submissions to public consultations;
- Receive reports & consider issues from GCCN’s representatives to decision making bodies in Galway City;
- Offer guidance to GCCN’s representatives’ and agree common positions as required;
- Nominate representatives to decision making bodies relevant to the thematic area.
GCCN Linkage Groups
Arts & Culture
The Arts and Culture Linkage Group provides a space for networking and discussion for GCCN members and others who are interested in arts and culture issues in Galway City, including artists, community festivals and theatre groups.
The GCCN representatives on the Economic Development, Enterprise Support & Culture Strategic Policy Committee are supported and informed in their work by this Linkage Group.
Economic Development and Enterprise Support Linkage Group
The Economic Development and Enterprise Support Linkage Group provides a space for networking and discussion for GCCN members and others who are interested in economic development issues in Galway City, including social enterprises and the ‘economic’ elements of the Local Economic & Community Plan.
The GCCN representatives on the Economic Development and Enterprise Support Strategic Policy Committee are supported and informed in their work by this Linkage Group.
Environmental Linkage Group
The Environmental Linkage Group discusses the issues associated with
- the Environment, Recreation and Amenity SPC
- the Planning SPC
- the Transport SPC.
Housing and Accommodation
The Housing and Accommodation Linkage Group provides a space for networking and discussion for GCCN members and others who are interested in housing and accommodation issues in Galway City, including homelessness, Traveller accommodation, tenants’ rights, social and affordable housing and the re-housing of refugees from Direct Provision.
The GCCN representatives on the Galway City Council Housing & Accommodation Strategic Policy Committee are supported and informed in their work by this Linkage Group.
Social Inclusion, Equality and Community Development Linkage Group
The Social Inclusion, Equality and Community Development Linkage Group provides a space for networking and discussion for GCCN members and others who are interested in social inclusion and community development in Galway City, including those addressing issues of poverty, inequality, discrimination.
GCCN representatives on several committees are supported and informed in their work by this Linkage Group, including:
- The Local Community Development Committee
- The Joint Policing Committee
- Galway City Partnership
- The Western Regional Drugs and Alcohol Taskforce
- The Childcare Committee
Sports
The Sports Linkage Group provides a space for networking and discussion for GCCN members and others who are interested in sports and recreation issues in Galway City, including sports clubs and groups, disability groups and groups using sport as a tool for outreach and social inclusion.
The GCCN representatives on the Galway Sports Partnership are supported and informed in their work by this Linkage Group.
