On Wednesday May 14th, 2025 all GCCN members are invited to join us for Creative Storytelling for Social and Environmental Justice, from 6pm to 8pm at the Westside Resource Centre.
This inspiring and hands-on workshop offers an opportunity to explore how we can use creative and participatory tools to support community voices, promote environmental justice, and challenge dominant narratives.
The session will be led by V’cenza Cirefice, a researcher, organiser, and facilitator who collaborates with frontline communities resisting environmental injustice, mining and extractivism.
V’cenza will introduce creative methods like photovoice and countermapping—a powerful community practice that allows people to reclaim the map by creating their own representations of place, experience, and resistance.
Rooted in approaches such as Participatory Action Research, feminist popular education, and visual approaches to community engagement, this session will provide practical tools and fresh inspiration for anyone working with communities on social or environmental issues.
What to expect?
Through collaborative and embodied activities, you will:
- Learn about extractivism in Ireland and globally
- Use visual art to create personal and collective maps
- Reflect on how creative methods can amplify community knowledge and action
This is a chance to connect with others, deepen your understanding of environmental justice, and gain skills for meaningful community engagement.
Food will be provided on this occasion, so please let us know of any dietary requirements in advance.
